The Band, 311: Tribute

Fire, wind, water, and earth. Basic elements that have formed our world, the birthplace of life as we know it. Nick, SA, Chad, Tim, and P-Nut. Basic elements that have formed the band, 311. By far 311 is the most unique blend of musical elements that I have found. There is no genre that this band can be placed under, no label that can constrain them. 311 is the perfect grouping of talent, working together in complete peace and positivity...

How the name became...back in the day, P-Nut and some friends went for a little skinny dipping in a public pool. Of course this is against the law, so the police came and they were caught. One of P-Nut's friends was arrested and the police brought him home to his parents, naked. He was given a citation for indecent exposure, which, in Omaha, the police code for this is 311, and so the name was born...

...and now, the band...

"Well I'm 6 foot 3 and like Mohammed Ali I float like a butterfly and sting like poison ivy drive a '69 Lincoln suicide doors around the town slinking fat subs of course." -Nick Hexum

...whether you want to lay back or jump up this guy has got the flavor for you. Just close your eyes and let his melodic voice put you into a trance. Bounce up and down while he spits out some amazing flows. When you see it live you can feel the energy pour out of his mic, and the electricity snap through the crowd as he launches himself off the stage into a sea of hands...

...check out these pictures...

mixing it up "You can touch me with your fresh aura cuz your energy be phenomena now move the people and then oila take on the love and good karma." -SA

Douglas Matinez (SA)

...that's right, he was born an "Omaha Stylee." He will hit you with mouthfulls of words faster than your brain can process them. For any of you who enjoy 311's raps I beg you to unfold those cd booklets and read what they are saying, nowhere else have I heard such lyrics. SA is also the one mixing it up on the wheels of steel and he definately brings the intensity to the stage...

...my DSL is out and I didn't have the patience to download more pictures right now...

Chad Sexton

...without any singing or guitar you can tell it's a 311 song with distincitive "pock" of Chad's drums. He is amazing, definately one of the most talented drummers I have ever seen, with a fortress of drums surrounding him at a concert, and drum solos that will make your jaw drop. No one else can replace the unique rhythm that he has contributed to the band...

...DSL is still down, should be up tomorrow (lets hope)...

Timothy Mahoney

...the other orginal "Omaha Stylee." Tim brings those vibrant guitar licks. Like the rest of the crew he has been able to adapt to many different styles, both slamming it down and playing it mellow. One of my personal guitar favorites would have to be the song "Six" on the Grassroots album...

...no more pictures, same reason as above...

always with a smirk quote

Aaron Wills(P-Nut)

...the line is legendary, "Yo P-Nut beat that thang," this is P-Nut's time to shine. His fingers are nothing but a blur as he plucks at those bass strings, easily the funkiest bass solos i've heard. After listening to 311 songs as a whole, I start breaking them down into their parts, singing, raps, drums, lead guitar, and I just love singling out that bass...

...pictures soon to come...
